Liverpool launched their title defense in dramatic fashion with a 4-2 victory at Anfield over Bournemouth. The Reds, after establishing an commanding advantage, were answered—before claiming a stoppage-time, decisive victory.
Hugo Ekitike (on his Premier League debut) scored the opener in the 37th minute and then set up Cody Gakpo to double the Reds’ lead at the start of the second half.
Bournemouth was brought back into the game by Antoine Semenyo with goals in the 64th and 76th minutes, levelling the match.
Substitute Federico Chiesa pulled Liverpool back in front again with a beautiful volley in the 88th minute, before Mohamed Salah sealed it with a stoppage-time finish.
